THE AMERICANS

by

These pieces come from an extensive series of works on paper, mostly composed during the, what, trying times between the run up to the 2021 election and the fallout of the January 6th riots. The effort felt like more than throwing shade and slant at patriotism as an organizing dis-virtue, although there was that. Also living in upstate New York, after 21 years in New York City, and seeing the political rise of a truly reptilian local congresswoman, Elise Stepanek, from someone posing with county sheriffs and little league teams, doing appearances at car dealerships, to becoming essentially the third in command of our country’s republican leadership. Seeing a person that vile, that stupid; I’m serious, that stupid…become almost incalculably powerful by nothing more than feverish lying and middle school-level social exploits disturbed the crap out of me. And there you go, Elise, now these works are as poisonous and flat-out mean as you are. Thanks a lot.
